INSPIRING
LEADERSHIP
The
school has eight houses: Gajra, Kamla, Padma, Madhavi, Usha, Yashodhara,
Vasundhara and Vijaya.
The School Council comprises four Head appointees and each of
the eight Houses has a Captain, Vice-Captain and prefects. Activities
are organized in a way to facilitate maximum participation. Students
are delegated responsibilities for maintenance of discipline in
the class, hostels, dining hall and houses. The assembly is a
plethora of activities and each individual child is trained to
address an audience. Inter-house and inter-school participation
gives optimum exposure to learn self-expression and confidence.
Most co-curricular activities are organized on an inter-House
level.
GAMES
& SPORTS
Games and sports form an integral part of the curriculum. An
hour of games in the evening is compulsory for all resident students,
and optional for day scholars. The school has a 400m athletic
track and courts. Games where specialized coaching is provided
are basketball, tennis, cricket, table-tennis, badminton and the
martial arts, karate and taekwondo.
Girls are encouraged to participate in physical fitness programmes
and in inter-school competitions including IPSC and CBSE tournaments.
An annual Inter-House Athletic Meet is held in December every
year.
LITERARY AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
To enrich the personality, a wide range of activities is catered
for in the year’s programme. The activities are reviewed
and revised with time and need, and form an inseparable part of
the curriculum. The students are provided opportunities to participate
in debates, quiz, drama, art and craft, dance (Bharat natyam,
kathak and folk) and music (instrumental and vocal) Inter-House
group and solo competitions are neatly interspersed into the regular
school schedule.
The school hosts the IPSC English declamation contest in September
every year. Teams from SKV participate regularly in inter-school
competitions including IPSC events. Republic Day, Independence
Day and Gandhi Jayanti are celebrated every year. Religious festivals
such as Janamashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi and Basant Panchami are
celebrated with cultural programmes.
CAREER
COUNSELLING
The career counselling cell arranges talks by eminent subject
experts and counsellors, primarily for classes IX-XII. Seminars
are organized with follow-up programmes. Aptitude testing is also
offered and students are familiarized with opportunities for higher
studies in a fast-changing world.
SOCIAL
SERVICES & ENVIRONMENTAL AWARNESS
Making children aware of social responsibilities and sensitizing
them to their environment are important priorities. A Social Service
League and a Nature Club, both primarily student-driven bodies,
organize a number of activities during the year including awareness
drives, voluntary work and fund-raising.
ROUND SQUARE INTERNATIONAL
The school has been an associate member of Round Square International
since 2001. The Round Square is an international organization
of 48 schools in 5 countries that share a commitment to personal
development, and responsibility through service, challenge, adventure
and international understanding.
To inculcate these qualities in a student, each Round Square
School presents an array of service opportunities to its own students.
The scope of activities is wide ranging from support for the ill
and elderly to childcare and maintenance and rehabilitation of
natural areas, to operation of life-saving or protective agencies.
SKV is also affiliated to the SPIC-MACAY organization, which
holds regular performances of world- renowned artists in various
fields of music and dance. The school is also a member of the
Inter public school Conference, which gives an opportunity to
all the students to participate in Inter school competitions at
the all India level.
ANNUAL
TRIPS
Much of the classroom learning is supplemented with field trips.
A five-six day educational trip is compulsory for all students
in March. These trips are organized to places of historical significance,
to wildlife sanctuaries and National Parks, and to places that
provide opportunities for adventure activities like camping, trekking,
rock climbing and river rafting.
