Editorial
There is hope in the air. Unbeknownst to many, it has wafted into the school; just like the gentle spring wind has, bringing with it a feeling of joy and expectation.
This expectation has taken varied forms. In the juniors, it is looking forward to the beginning of yet another school year. And for us; Standard XII, who will soon be known as the batch of 2008,it has assumed the form of excitement at finally stepping out into the world, a world full of colleges, jobs, parties, friends and unlimited fun.
Just the other day someone said, “Isn’t it great? We’ll be out of school in a few weeks! No more doing what everyone tells us to do.” I agree. It is great that we’re leaving. I’m happy that we won’t have to live within the confines of these four walls anymore. I’m happy that we’ll no longer have to eat whatever has been prepared in the mess anymore. I’m happy that we’ll no longer be scolded by anyone for having our hair open or having kohl in our eyes. I’m happy that we won’t have to watch movies in a crowded TV room anymore.
But then, if I am really as happy as I say I am, why don’t I feel it from the inside? Why don’t all of us? Why do I have this frantic desire to be back in the IX STD again? Why do all of us demand for the handing over to take place and then feel secretly relieved that it has been postponed? And most importantly, why do most us go off at tangents whenever the topic of leaving school comes up?
There are many such questions that need to be answered, but contrary to what I had written in my first editorial, time is not on my side anymore. Now all we can do is step out of school with our heads held high and a smile on our lips with a treasure trove of memories of our home away from home.

DOWN MEMORY LANE
19 Jan…A wave of new faces, full of anxiety and nervousness swept in, flooding the gates of SKV. “There is a better life after entering SKV” Parents tell their daughters while throwing curious looks at the girls who, smartly dressed up in their grey checks, walk past them.
Seeing the look on their faces, I suddenly remembered the day when my parents finally made up their minds about sending me to a boarding school.
“Scindia Kanya Vidyalaya!!!” I almost fell off my chair when I came to know that this was the place I was going to be living in ,for the next few years. “You must be kidding; I don’t want to be put behind bars, to be fed on porridge and milk!!” I complained... but all my pleas fell on deaf ears as my parents left the room leaving behind a tear stained girl. That was the beginning and a few months later, I was here, appearing for my entrance exam.
Hardly did I know that the girls, who I stared at when I entered the premises of SKV, would later on become an integral part of my life.
Studying in SKV has made me what I am today. I have undergone a metamorphosis, from a shy girl into a confident young woman.
And as I walk by those curious faces today, I smile and give a silent salute to my parents.

Living back
Excerpts from the speech given out by Shreya Khedia at the farewell.
Seeing all my seniors giving farewell speeches I always used to imagine myself giving my farewell speech. It was so enticing at that point of time, but when the time came to actually sit down and write it I was just trying to find ways to some how delay it and again be the listener not the speaker. But I had to do it and here I am.
1 April 2003 was the day I came here, unsure of what was expected of me. I was filled with excitement and fear, but as SKV is, it made me feel at home in no time.
Five years in SKV have given me the best memories of my life. Life was beautiful, fun and I learnt something new every moment. I was in a world that was the same, but yet, it was different in its own charming way. Standing here I see all my memories rushing back. Just some time ago I was standing among you all and now I am standing here ready to live back everything that I have lived for last five years. Ready to leave my school, teachers, friends, my uniform, classrooms and so many things that have made me what I am today.
Rushing in front of my eyes come memories of how every morning I barely managed to be in time for hostel morning assembly and some how got saved from the wrath of the captains and prefects. I remember singing the Shala Geet every Saturday and wondering what was the use of it all. But now, I have slowly grown to realize the true meaning of those words.
All my teachers used to tell me – Shreya, you are very over confident; you can do very well but first start studying Shreya, Why are you so lazy?? Now that the time has come when I will have to face the world on my own, I realize how important those words were.
Let’s not forget the games field- How I managed to survive an hour of games everyday through all these years, still surprises me.
It’s not only memories that I’m taking back, I’m also taking with me all the teachings and morals that SKV has imbibed in me.
SKV taught me how to be honest to myself, made me aware of a culture, made me a better person. The fact that there won’t be anymore morning assemblies , uniforms, such amazing friends, caring teachers, the good mess food and many other things; scares me .All this makes me feel that I’m leaving behind one part of myself here and it will always be in the campus of SKV.
I would like to thank all the people of SKV, especially Principal ma’am, Suniti ma’am our ex-Principal, Vice Principal ma’am, HS ma’am and all my teachers for everything that they have given me. I also thank all my classmates; had it not been for them, I would never have been happy here.
I n the end I just want to say one thing to all my school mates,
“Feel the spirit of SKV when you are wearing our uniform and live in that spirit because it is our school, our SKV!!!
Rise up to that height that wherever in the world you go, people should say “Look, she is an Skvian”

CLASS XII
Eye Spy on SKV
Here I am looking out of the window… again…and I am unable to concentrate on anything. Maybe it’s the fact that the preboards have just ended.
On stepping out of the class room after giving my last exam, I was feeling two distinct emotions: _
1. Relief-That the preboards were finally over.
2. Shock-At realizing that the boards were only a month away.
I am sure that in most of us the first emotion was dominant.
One can feel a wind of change in the school. The scholastic year is coming to an end and badges are going to be exchanged…I mean the prefect council will undergo change. New leaders will be put on the pedestal, brimming with enthusiasm and new ideas.
There will also be some changes in the Editorial Board, our editor to be more precise. She has been a person who has been pretty hard to look up to and that’s just because she’s not very tall. But she towers over all of us by the way she expresses herself. (And if you don’t believe me, read the editorial of this issue)
The atmosphere in the hostels has also changed. Sometimes it seems as if an entire orchestra of alarm clocks is playing, as if to remind their slumbering owners to sleep less and study more.
I’ll end by wishing everyone especially the Board classes all the best for their exams!

15 reasons
Why SKVians are perfectly adapted to survive in the big bad world!!!
1. Perfect in getting their own way. (How else do we get TV????)
2. Yearly trips via 2nd class train compartments, innumerable camping expeditions and some not so great hotels, have taught us to rough it out really well
3. We are good at one day matches (mainly for exams, projects, presentations etc.)
4. We can do martial arts.
5. We are street smart. Bargaining, borrowing and cajoling are our fortes.
6. Long years of wearing short winter skirts have made us resistant to cold. And the heat as well.
7. We can never starve because we have practically developed a taste for anything edible.
8. We appreciate the importance of hot running water and other domestic conveniences.
9. We can convince the domestic help to sneak us coffee and biscuits.
10. We are brilliant at extracting maximum output from minimum resources. Eg; making birthday cakes from tiger biscuits!!
11. If we ever don’t have a hair straightener, we can use an iron.
12. We strongly believe that letters are the best means of communication and are able to make do without cell phones and the internet.
13. If there are transport strikes, we can get around by walking.
14. We can get along with everyone as we have lived with all kinds of people, who have come from different backgrounds.
15. Most of us SKVians are really good people by heart. We don’t look down on anyone and have the ability to take life in our stride.

Senior Regional Round Square Conference
Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service are the six ideals which make up Round square. A group of six girls escorted by Ms. Pramod Sharma took part in the Senior Regional Round Square Conference held at the Scindia School from 6 to 8 January.
The theme of the conference was ‘Sharing Responsibility’. Delegates from all the schools were divided into 6 groups.
There were various activities organized which were very enjoyable. All the delegates enjoyed and learned a lot during the visit to the Man Singh palace, archeological museum, the Jai Vilas palace and we were mesmerized by the light and the sound show at the Scindia Fort which depicted the history of the Scindia Fort. The visits to Amar Jyoti school and the Vivekananda Needam proved to be eye-openers for all of us and we found out that challenged people are not disabled…they are differently abled.
Later, we visited the Danik Bhaskar office and My FM studio, where we got to know about newspapers from collection of news to printing and distribution.
Altogether the conference gave us an enriching experience .The last event was the cultural programme put up by all the participating schools. The most important parts of the conference were the Riika and the Barazza meeting and the talks by experts based on the conference themes which were great combinations of fun and learning.
The conference finally ended with students socials where we had a gala time on the dance floor.
Everything good has to come to an end and sadly so did the conference
We returned to SKVwith a bunch of memories, many new friends and a totally changed perspective of our world.

Farewell
Finally the long awaited season of the graduation began. The show commenced at 5:35 pm. with the opening speech followed by the welcome dance by our spirited kathak dancers. This journey of entertainment continued with the rocking Punjabi dance which brought everyone to their toes. Next was the fusion and a fun filled medley. The fun filled evening continued with games. There was an air of excitement in the auditorium, specially during the titles which were Miss Graduate, Miss Seraph, Miss Jovial, Miss Austerity, Miss Impish, but the backstage excitement was no less. The panic on the momentary loss of an earring, the shrill scream just to get some silence (which was never really there) and watching the seniors from between the curtains which was our full time vantage point, definitely made for good footage. The programme ended with a dance on the song ‘Gasolina’ which left everyone shouting for more. The programme was given further dimension in the form of farewell speeches by various 12thees. The evening ended with a delicious dinner followed by an impromptu photo session in the hostels. And finally the titles were given to:
- Miss Graduate - Divya R. Pawar
- Miss Jovial - Ankita Sahani
- Miss Seraph - Jessica Mukherjee
- Miss Impish - Swarnima Singh
- Miss Austerity -Dorothy B. Deka
